Jim Carrey Shares Wisdom on Outlook and Life with Students

I just stumbled across Jim Carrey’s commencement speech at the Maharishi University
of Management, and I am both shocked and smiling. His outlook is incredible! After just hearing him say a few things I immediately opened a Word doc to start taking notes because it was clear it was worth remembering what this happy soul had to say.

Here are 10 nuggets from his speech that stood out while I was trying to take notes:

1. You can fail at what you don’t want… might as well take a chance on doing what you love.
2. The affect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.
3. Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Risk being seen in all of your glory.
4. We are not the avatars that we create, but the light that shines through us.
5. I wish that everyone could achieve all their hopes and dreams and get rich so they can see that that’s not where they’ll achieve their completion.
6. My mission: remove everyone’s concern. That’s what I do.
7. I wanted to do something bigger than me, but someone made me realize there can’t be anything bigger than myself.
8. It’s about letting the universe know what you want and working towards it, then letting go of how it comes to pass.
9. Everything you get in this world will fall apart and rot, and all that you’ll have left is what was in your heart.
10. You will only ever have to choose between love and fear…choose love and don’t ever let fear turn you against your playful heart.
