3 weeks ago, Bhumi and I set off for sunny Florida for our honeymoon. Every night of the trip we would come back to the room and download all of the pictures we had taken onto my computer to make space on the memory card for the next day’s adventure. About two weeks after we got home I got a computer virus and it wiped out all of my files. Among those files were our honeymoon pics – all 500 of them. Fortunately I had uploaded a lot of them to Facebook the night after we returned so we had some low quality versions left, but it was a really sad moment when I realized that all those pics had gone away forever… or so I thought. My uncle enlightened me today on the fact that memory cards don’t erase everything when you delete your files – and software exists to recover those files from the memory cards if you haven’t taken too many more new pictures on the same card.
I was really skeptical. How would that possibly work? So to download.com I went and found this free file recovery software and started getting hopeful. I was still trying to keep my expectations down, trying to tell myself this probably wasn’t going to work (while secretly praying it would).
I opened the program, started the “surface scan” and there they were! All my pictures back to life like magic! I am thankful to Pandora and their amazing file recovery software. I don’t know why it’s free b/c there were others that offered to do the same thing for $30 to $40 – but I’m not complaining. Now Bhumi and I can make a nice (and BIG) photobook from our adventures in Florida like we had hoped before the evil virus took over!
I am also putting these on Picasa and my external hard drive before it’s too late. Despite the Bears loss today, I am still smiling. A big thank you to whoever developed this software and Bakulesh Mama for the tip!
